The Valley of the Sun

by Derek Bowskill

Age Advice: 7-9

The Valley of the Sun is a play written by Derek Bowskill for Theatre centre. Unfortunately the exact year of the play is currently unknown. Theatre Centre toured this play to schools, where it was presented to audiences of 7 to 9 year olds.

This play is about the battle of belief between tribes in the village of Suenta Doré. A stranger and his friend approach the village and try to sway the tribes from worshipping the sun to worshipping the mountains of the moon. This eventually works but life dies out, people perish in the cold, and everyone is unhappy. The Sun’s messenger see’s their struggle and reaches out to them through a dream; guiding them back to the warmth of the sun, with some instructions and a lot of hope.
