Debris Stevenson
Resident Writer
A hybrid-playwright, dyslexic educator, Grime-poet, queer ex-Mormon and pro-raver. Debris’s work explores the intersectional, unexpected, and unjust.
Debris has worked in over 30 countries, raised over £300K with her company The Mouthy Poets, designed academic poetry modules, and her Grime musical POET IN DA CORNER (Royal Court) toured nationally in 2020. Debris had her screen acting debut in MEDUSA DELUXE (BFI, BBC) at Locarno Film Festival in 2022.
Debris is currently co-adapting CYRANO DE BERGERAC for the Royal Shakespeare Company alongside Simon Evans, starring Adrian Lester premiering in September 2025, bringing new life to this thrilling, lyrical tale of love and lies, longing and disguise. Debris’s new play, MY BROTHER’S A GENIUS, a grime-musical about neurodivergent twins learning how to fly, will tour to UK schools and theatres in Spring 2026, in a major new co-production with Theatre Centre, Sheffield Theatres and National Youth Theatre. Debris is also completing a fully funded practice-based PhD studentship in Grime Lyricism as Narrative Form at Oxford Brookes University.
When Debris is not writing she can be found dancing at carnivals, parties and prides around the world.
