The whiteboard friendly ideas and activities on this page are designed to deepen the experience of performances of Rise Up and engage students in further debate, discussion and creative work. They were created to develop understanding in the areas of Drama.

Rise Up is touring to schools and theatres across the UK between September 17 2015  and December 4 2015.

  • The Session Plans provide ideas for drama lessons and include work on  monlogue development, integration and performance of spoken word,  character back story, exploring ideas around territory and segregation and writing a review. 
  • The Facts contain information about the historical background of the play, including profiles of some of the riders, a timeline of the freedom rides  and links to further information about the Freedom Riders. 
  • The Synopsis provides a simple breakdown of the story
  • The Glossary of Terms offers clear explanations of terms that may be unfamiliar to the students, as well as informationn on key historical figures.
