The whiteboard friendly ideas and activities on this page are designed to deepen the experience of performances of Layla's Room and engage students in further debate, discussion and creative work. They were created to develop understanding in the areas of Drama and PSHE.

Layla's Room is touring to schools and theatres across the UK between September 19 2015  and December 2 2015.

Resources

  • The Session Plans provide ideas for drama lessons and include work on exploring the representation of women in the media, devising scenes based on stimuli, working with extract of text writing a review. 
  • The Facts provide a brief background to feminism movements in the UK, some statistics on gender in the workplace and in the media and the results of Sabrina Mahfouz's original survey 
  • The Synopsis provides a simple breakdown of the story
  • Text Extracts provide selected scenes from the play that you can work on with your students
