Arts Award

Theatre Centre is an Arts Award Supporter organisation: our programme of work provides young people with opportunities to achieve objectives of the Explorer, Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Award.

"For my Silver Arts Award qualification, I had to ask professional actors questions about their work. At the Q&A we got to hear from the writer and director about how they made the show and that helped us plan how to make our own."

Ricardo, working towards his Silver Arts Award

"Theatre Centre's work is relevant and interesting because their productions are youth-focused and present strong, inspirational young characters."

Jenny, Arts Award Advisor for 2nd Chance

Theatre Centre's opportunities are relevant for young people working towards an Arts Award at any level: Explorer, Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Established in 1953, Theatre Centre is a professional theatre company touring new plays for young people. We've worked with prestigious writers Lisa Evans, Noël Grieg, Mike Kenny, Bryony Lavery, Brendan Murray, Philip Osment, Manjinder Virk, Roy Williams, Benjamin Zephaniah and many others.

Our plays tour to schools and venues, where young people might watch and review a Theatre Centre production. We also offer post-show Q&As and workshops, giving young people the opportunity to find out about cultural professionals (predominantly actors, but occasionally writers and others), and the opportunity to take part in an arts activity.

Work experience opportunities, based at Theatre Centre's London office, can sometimes be arranged.

What's more, if you work for a school that has achieved Artsmark status, or is working towards this, we can help. Artsmark criteria state that at least one opportunity should be "provided for all students in every year group to work with or visit an arts organisation or artist... An opportunity could be a one-off workshop or visit". Contact us for more information.

What is an Arts Award Supporter?

  • Workshops

  • Opportunities to find out about artists and cultural opportunities
  • A chance to share skills or lead arts projects
