Raidene Carter to join Theatre Centre

We are pleased to announce that Raidene Carter will be joining Theatre Centre as Executive Director in March 2018. Raidene is currently Director of Artistic Programmes at WAC Arts and has previously worked as Head of Creative Programmes at The Albany.

Artistic Director Natalie Wilson said: “We are thrilled that Raidene will be joining the Theatre Centre team, bringing with her energy and ambition as we move into the next National Portfolio period.  She will be instrumental in developing our vision of artists and young people as agents of artistic and social change.  I very much look forward to working with her as we launch Theatre Centre’s next era with more touring of new commissions and premieres, the relaunch of The Brian Way Award, Standpoint and other great opportunities on their way.”

Raidene joins Theatre Centre at a pivotal time for the company, as we create challenging new writing for young audiences and tour to more people in more places.

Raidene Carter said: “I am delighted to be joining Theatre Centre as Executive Director, and excited to be making theatre for and with children and young people again. The first play I ever professionally produced was for Theatre in Education and I have never forgotten that mix of fear and fun of being so beholden to such a deserving audience.  The Theatre for Young People sector is where our theatre sector as a whole cuts its teeth and it’s critical that we step up to the new challenges of cash-strapped schools, a declining creative curriculum and young people growing up in an increasingly complex world. With new ideas, art and activism Theatre Centre is committed to facing these challenges head on, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Last year Theatre Centre renewed their National Portfolio Organisation status, securing funding from Arts Council England for the next 4 years, taking us into 2022 and our 69th year of touring high-quality and powerful theatre for children and young people.
